People of CN: Khwan Khanhansuk
My story started getting people’s attention in 2010 when I won a scholarship in Thailand to come study in the United States. I ended up spending one year enjoying culture shock at a prep school in New Hampshire before I went on to be accepted into Virginia Military Institute, where I graduated with a degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering. After graduation, I went back to Thailand to work in the Thai Army but it was there that I realized how much I missed the U.S – so I decided to come back in December 2015 and I’ve been here ever since!
No matter how high you dream, keep going. No matter how many times we face with obstacles and fail, just keep getting up and never give up.
I love shopping for (and wearing) colorful clothes, watching Miss Universe Pageants, and volunteering with my husband at our local Humane Society. As a simple guy who was born in a third world country on the other side of the world from America, I would always watch Hollywood films and dream about coming to America one day. For my whole life, I always thought about what it would be like to see snow with my own eyes.
Back home, I was told by some people that I was insane for believing in a better life. Today I have the dream of many people around the world and there will never be enough words to say how thankful and appreciative I am. On September 22nd, 2020, I had my oath ceremony for becoming an official U.S. citizen. This was the first time of my life that I ever could go to the polls and vote – I was so excited!
No matter how high you dream, keep going. No matter how many times we face with obstacles and fail, just keep getting up and never give up.
Khwan Khanhansuk is a bridge inspection engineer EIT who joined Clark Nexsen in 2017 in our Roanoke office. He is quick to praise those around him and humble about his own accomplishments, but we’d like to mention that he passed the EIT exam within four months of joining the firm.
