Ian Vaughan Receives NCNOMA 2024 Vision Award

Last month, Ian Vaughan, AIA, NOMA, was presented with a 2024 Vision Award by NCNOMA during their second-annual ARE Scholarship Gala in Raleigh, North Carolina. The award recognizes leaders of NCNOMA’s partner organizations who have made significant contributions through thoughtful and creative collaboration with NCNOMA.

“I was surprised and honored to receive a Vision Award from NCNOMA,” said Ian. “Despite being a young chapter, NCNOMA has already made a big impact in the area. I have no doubt their initiatives, vision, and leadership will continue to be felt for years to come.”

Ian was recognized for his support and leadership experience with VANOMA, which was key in developing the young NCOMA chapter. In addition to being a financial sponsor of the inaugural ARE Scholarship, VANOMA juried the NCNOMA/AIANC Equitable and Inclusive Practice Award and collaborated with NCNOMA to extend the “Passing the Torch Series” to honor heritage months throughout the 2024 calendar year.

Ian received the award at NCNOMA ARE Scholarship Gala “Sneaker Ball” on November 16th

“Ian has been approachable, reliable, and consistent, which has made collaboration with VANOMA a pleasure over the past few years,” said Vershae Hite, AIA, NOMA, LEED GA, and NCOMA President. “As he moves on from President of VANOMA to his next chapter, he will certainly be missed.”

The NCNOMA ARE Scholarship Gala is an annual event that honors the Architectural Registration Exams (ARE) scholarship recipients, providing them with essential financial support as they pursue their licensure. Additionally, the event celebrates and recognizes the achievements of BIPOC architects in North Carolina and furthers their mission of increasing the number of licensed architects within the community. The gala also functioned as a platform to celebrate the ongoing efforts to champion diversity and acknowledge invaluable partnerships that help make this mission a reality.

Since joining Clark Nexsen in 2020, Ian’s work as an architect and project manager has spanned the private and public sectors. Dedicated to improving the built environment, he is an active AIA member and is on the advisory board for Virginia Tech’s School of Architecture. In 2018, he was appointed by the Governor to serve on the Art and Architectural Review Board for the Commonwealth of Virginia, where he served as an advisory board member until June 2022. He is currently the president of VANOMA and serves on the board of Preservation Virginia. A graduate of Virginia Tech, Ian’s work includes the CEBAF Center Renovation and Addition for Jefferson Lab, Camp Pendleton Area Mess Hall and Consolidated Warehouse, and Hampton University Museum Addition.
