AIA Activate NC’s GoRaleigh Bus Shelter Prototype Design Competition
COMPETITION BRIEF
AIA Activate NC invited designers to explore and develop a GoRaleigh bus shelter prototype design to generate excitement about transit while incorporating the new GoRaleigh branding to bus stops and bus shelters. The design must also address user criteria such as shelter from the elements, visibility, comfort, and safety. The competition asked design teams to create a new prototype bus shelter design within a $4,000.00 budget for potential city-wide implementation.

DESIGN BRIEF
The premise of the go[shelter] is to elevate the status of regional bus travel for all passengers. Conceptually it is envisioned to comprise a graphically intense and recognizable system of landmarks in the urbanscape. The prototypical shelter is a folded line of steel that connects points and shelters riders while contributing and strengthening the Go Raleigh brand. The concept can be implemented throughout the region remaining true in it’s formal expression while having the flexibility to adapt to iconic graphic requirements. The go[shelter] reinterprets the transit system graphics into a dynamic, sculptural and functional form that is altogether simple in its execution.
